Spanish

Spanish is probably the easiest language for English speakers to learn, but it’s hard. I tested pretty terribly in my preliminary interview – advanced beginner. There’s beginner, intermediate, advanced, and superior, so I’m pretty much pure gringo. I really think I’m better than I tested, but hard to argue with a native speaker. I think I know the grammar pretty well, but speaking is rough for me. I just need to spend more time doing it.

We leave Cayambe and join our training host families Friday, and that’s the real deal. We’re grouped by language level, and my group will be in Cangahua (cahn-GA-hwa). This is where the stories start….

After much debate, my name in Spanish is Rigo. You gotta roll the r to make it sound cool. Reid is pronounced really awkwardly, like RrrAY-eed. I think Rigo will just make sense to people, and it’s similar to Reido anyway. Anything but gringo.

Chao chao.
