Interviewed

Finishing all of my paperwork, today I had my interview, and it went well! I must say that this page on the Peace Corps wiki left me very well prepared for the questions I got asked. Nothing surprising in that regard. What did surprise me is that the language requirements seem to have gotten more stringent. I was told that unless I took a language exam, my Spanish background was not enough to qualify, and my meager French experience was not nearly enough. This feels like a letdown, but I may be able to slip through the cracks if I can track down my Spanish placement exam from college.

My recruiter, who has been wonderfully responsive, sounded positive about me getting nominated! It feels like my technology background will lead to a program in that field, which is what I had hoped. The region I get nominated for will probably largely depend on language clearance, given that I had preferred a French or Spanish speaking country but may not qualify. Most people get nominated for a departure 12 months after nomination, which is longer than I was hoping to wait, but I’m willing to stick it out.

I realize that all of this is mundane to those not applying or interested in applying to the Peace Corps. Though Mom and Dad will be happy to hear these details I’m sure.
